At around noon, an old lady walked out of the Lucky’s in Saratoga on Nov. 24 with a cart of groceries. Instead of heading home, she stopped by the De Anza Lions food drive and donated several canned vegetables and a fat turkey.
When asked why she donated, she replied, “I was once a person on the other side.”
During the weekend before Thanksgiving, the De Anza Lions Club collaborated with MV Leo Club to host an annual food drive to collect food and money for local shelters and schools. The concept of giving back to the community was embodied by not only the people who donated but also by the volunteers collecting the donations. Follow El Estoque to see how giving back to the community brings warmth on a chilly Sunday morning.
