MVHS Car Club hosted an automobile show on Friday, April 3, during tutorial and brunch on the blacktop. The event, consisting of revving automobile engines and students introducing the unique aspects of their own vehicles, was first suggested by Student Conduct Specialist Thomas Michaelis, a fellow automobile enthusiast. Intrigued, the club officers contacted school administration to organize the time, location and logistics of the event, totaling four months of planning.
Co-president and senior Yuvan Kothari mentions that transporting the vehicles onto the school black top was a challenge for the organizing team. He explains that vehicles with a lower hood, such as his own silver Dodge Challenger, had to enter through the teacher parking lot, while the other automobiles entered through the student parking lot.
Kothari also shares that he and co-president senior Matias Ashtiani met multiple new vehicle fanatics when finding students to bring automobiles to the event. He further explains that the community’s many passionate car lovers were what sparked his curiosity for the inner workings of automobiles.
“When I got my car, I started getting into the car community and meeting other people with cars,” Kothari said. “I realized how cool it was. Since then, I’ve had this obsession to learn everything I possibly can about cars. I go home — cars. I dream at night — cars. I’ve completely fallen in love with it.”
One of the car show participants, senior Madi Moren, brought her bright yellow Honda CBR600RR motorcycle to showcase. Growing up with a family that bikes, [last name] spent last summer working to purchase this motorcycle, her first vehicle, with her own money. Now, [last name] shares that this bike is her daily vehicle, and that riding it brings her joy.
“I love riding — nothing else compares, honestly,” Moren said. “It gives you a freeing feeling. I always try to tell people, ‘You can do it,’ because many people think it’s a lot harder or scarier than it is. I always tell girls, ‘Try riding my bike, go ahead.’ You should ride a bike if you want to, it’s a great life experience.”
Kothari says that the Car Club is a space for people, like Moren, to get together and share their love for vehicles like cars, electric bikes and motorcycles. Specifically, along with car meets such as this, Kothari and Ashtiani host car-related events such as simulation racing competitions and mechanic workshops to further encourage new people to join.
“This is not sponsored,” Kothari said. “This is coming out of my personal wallet and Matias’ personal wallet. We do this to inspire automotive enthusiasm on campus and get the community together. No other reason. I love seeing people smiling. People are having a great time and it warms my heart. That’s what we do it for.”
