Varsity Girls Volleyball lost 3-2 against Homestead High School on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The match began with HHS taking the lead with a 25-21 win in the first set. Although the Matadors won the second and third sets, HHS bounced back in the fourth and fifth sets, winning the game.
Coming into the game, sophomore and libero Srahi Bobbili said the team expected HHS to be a tough opponent. According to Bobbili, the team has historically taken the Matadors to five sets, making their games very close until the end.
“HHS is a very scrappy team,” Bobbili said. “They’ll pick up every single ball, and it’s really annoying that way. Every team has its weakness, but once you startle their defense, their offense starts going down. I feel like we kind of exploited that today a little bit, but it also came back to us.”
Despite the loss, sophomore and outside hitter Tracy He is proud of how the team performed, specifically lauding the team’s energy for rebounding despite the first set’s loss. She also praised junior and setter Kylee Mark’s performance, for setting the ball across the court, ultimately frustrating their opponent.
“I think all of us got good blocks,” He said. “I think that’s the main reason our energy got turned on. We came back for several points. Yesterday, I worked on a lot of blocking because I really want to make some changes — I know blocking is a key play.”
