MVHS hosts Neon Lights Dance
Students attend the first dance on campus in two years
April 10, 2022
MV ASB and Leadership held the Neon Lights Dance in the Rally Court from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 1. It was the first post-pandemic school dance and leadership pre-sold 190 tickets, according to senior and ASB treasurer Marvin Wu. Approximately 400 students in total attended the event.
Wu notes that the process of preparing the dance consisted of setting up the game and dance areas the afternoon of the event. He adds that it was an opportunity for “students, especially underclassmen, to understand what the dances are like” after two years of restrictions on school events.
Preparations for the Neon Lights Dance started in March, with Leadership ordering foosball tables, air hockey and whack-a-mole arcade games. LED necklaces, bracelets and light-up sticks were distributed to students to match the neon theme, while pizza, boba and Auntie Anne’s pretzels were sold as snacks. Because the attendance was lower than expected, leftover food was given out for free at the end of the event.
“We didn’t get as many sales, but we know that people enjoyed the event and so we can count on more people to show up in future years because we haven’t had these dances in the past two years,” Wu said.
