Highlights of the 2016 winter rally

Highlights+of+the+2016+winter+rally

For this year’s winter rally, freshmen and seniors competed against sophomores and juniors in an ultimate battle of Dark vs Light. Taking inspiration from Star Wars, the classes of 2017 and 2018 represented the “Light Side” while the classes of 2016 and 2019 represented the “Dark Side.” Being the first team rally in two years, it was filled with lots of exciting performances and intense rally games — almost as intense as the battle between Luke and Darth Vader. Whether you missed the entire thing or just want to relive the experience, here’s a recap of what went down in this rally.

The Basics:

Dark side: freshmen and seniors

Beginning of the rally:

Each side built up excitement for the rally by screaming the classic “How do you feel?” and 15-second cheers.

Dark side performance:

Using lightsabers as their props, seniors Shovik Guha and Marcus Laguisma performed a dance routine to support and hype up the dark side.

Rally games:

The dark and light side competed side by side in group rally games which included challenges like breaking piñatas and hitting balloons through hula hoops. Although the dark side gave a good effort, the light side ended up winning both rally games.

Light side performance:

After the rally games, juniors Veda Ashok, Deepika Sriram, Saketh Kurnool and Elliot Ryu performed a mashup of “Hall of Fame” by The Script and “Battle Scars” by Lupe Fiasco and Guy Sebastian to support the light side. Their performance was greeted with applause from both sides.

Alma mater:

As at every rally, MVHS Spirit performed the Alma Mater with the acoustic accompaniment of Variations.

Announcing the winner:

At the end of the rally, ASB announced the winner as the dark side; this was the first win for the class of 2019 and yet another for the class of 2016.
