Rally court activities wasted on MVHS students

While in the academic quad, students heard a low buzz coming from the rally court. Out of curiosity, they went to see what was happening. Once they arrived at the rally court, they saw a band playing.  Not just any band, but Blush, a band who opened for Justin Bieber in Hong Kong.  After fulfilling their thirst of curiosity, instead of staying to listen to the band, the students just left. This situation is quite common as the students in our high school are quite unenthusiastic about on-campus activities (besides Club Day, of course.) When it comes to raising their hand for participation points in class, most of these students are very quick.
But when it comes to spirit participation—Nada.

Rally court activities are set up by Leadership in order to ensure lunch time enjoyment. They are dedicated to transforming a normal, boring, lunch day, into something exciting and memorable. Yet many students take this entertainment for granted, as they completely overlook how much effort goes into the organizing of these events.

When it comes to gaining extra credit points, we are there at a drop of a hat. However, when it comes to attending events at lunchtime, just for school spirit, barely anyone is there to celebrate.

Granted, some of us may have prior commitments such as club meetings or teacher conferences at lunchtime; however, even in our free time, we do not deign to join the select few students who contain at least an ounce of spirit. Can’t we just put in the effort to actually show up and appreciate what our school has organized for us once in a while? Of course some of you may simply feel as if those activities that take place are not to your interest, but you cannot make such a claim without actually experiencing the entertainment in the first place!

Showing up to after-school events for extra credit, doesn’t qualify as “spirit.” If we really want to be spirited, we need to go beyond just self-benefit, because that will be in the best interest of not only our school, but ourselves.
