Twenty-two clubs set up trifolds to attract new members at Club Info Day in the rally court during tutorial and brunch on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Many clubs brought trinkets, candy or snacks to entice potential members — some, like Chinese Club’s guava candy and Nutrition Club’s fruit snacks, were intentionally chosen to reflect the clubs’ goals.
The Student Life Commission organized the event primarily for newly approved clubs and clubs that did not get a spot in the first semester Club Info Day due to space constraints. Juniors and Student Life Commissioners Shivika Biswari and Michelle Tian, who helped organize the event over the last several weeks, explain that while MVHS Administration helped set up the tables, the SLC was responsible for arranging clubs by category and individual clubs’ preferences, as well as coordinating the event. They believe the second Club Info Day plays a major role in helping new clubs gain membership.
“Especially at the start of the second semester, without this, it’ll be really hard for new clubs to get members,” Biswari said. “So this is an avenue for them to spread the word out and get more members, and also just get to know about the club community.”
Junior Aadhya Gupta, who is president of the newly-approved Nutrition Club, started the club to combat misconceptions about nutrition, particularly those circulated on social media. She hopes that Club Info Day will help the club recruit freshmen and sophomores to Nutrition Club, building a strong and sustainable volunteer base. After participating in other Club Info Days for other clubs, Gupta wanted to ensure that her club’s booth was particularly eye-catching.
“I really wanted our board to speak for what we want,” Gupta said. “We used a lot of colors because we want to show that we’re talking about a wide range of topics, so each color represents something different. We also just wanted to be really passionate and really exciting, and our board was super colorful to make it fun.”
