The class of 2025 held its Senior Sunrise at the football field on Friday, Aug. 23, from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. An annual tradition for each year’s senior class, Senior Sunrise this year also included donut holes, hot chocolate, activities and poster frames.
Seniors arrived at school while it was still dark and set up blankets on the field to watch the sun rise. In addition, they chatted and played games with friends, shared food and took photos to mark the beginning of their last year of high school. The 2025 Class Office began planning the event in May and finalized details the week before school started. Senior Class President Jamie Garcia coordinated the activities for the sunrise by helping bring new ideas to the traditions set by previous years.
The Class Office organized donuts and hot chocolate, following a norm set by previous years’ Senior Sunrises. They also added a few new ideas of their own inspired by social media posts, such as friendship bracelets and senior capsule letters that they will give back to the seniors at the end of the year, Garcia says.
Garcia worried that the weather and the turnout would be poor, recalling that the sky had been cloudy and gray in previous years, but was pleased by the relatively clear skies and the number of seniors who attended.
“It’s really nostalgic to see everyone here, and I know I’m gonna remember this,” Garcia said. “It’s really cool to see all these people come together all in one place at 6 a.m. when none of us want to be at school. It’s gonna be an important memory for the rest of the year.”
