Varsity Girls Volleyball swept all three sets against Los Altos High School on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Although LAHS took the lead in the first set, the Matadors were able to quickly catch up, pull ahead and maintain their lead, winning the first set with a score of 25-20. The score remained close throughout the second set, but MVHS fought back, ending the set 25-23 with a hit from junior and outside hitter Kiana Mark. The Matadors continued their momentum into the third set, which ended 25-18 with a kill from senior and outside hitter Evelyn Xie, ultimately winning the game 3-0 for the Matadors.

Happy with her personal performance, Mark attributes the Matadors’ win to their open communication throughout the game.

“We communicated between the points so we all knew what was going on,” Mark said. “We also know how to watch each other’s back and trust each other completely on the court, which is really important because if you don’t trust your teammates, everything could go wrong. But since we have [that] trust in each other, we were able to win.”

Although the team had a slight setback when freshman and setter Kylee Mark got injured during a rally in the second set, Chaudhari felt that the Matadors did a great job of encouraging each other throughout the game. She believes that as a whole, the team is still learning how to play in sync with each other, but as each game goes on, the dynamic drastically improves.

Mark agrees with Chaudhari, as she has seen growth in the team from the start of the season, and is hopeful for what the team will be able to accomplish in the near future.

“As a team, we definitely came together today to perform,” Mark said. “There were some ups and downs in the game, but we were able to focus on the game really well and then come out with the win.”
