Varsity Boys Volleyball defeated Saratoga High School 3-0 with the respective scores 25-11, 25-19 and 25-18 during its senior night on Friday, April 29, bringing its overall league record to 7-5.

The gym was adorned with senior posters created by underclassmen. Senior Arthur Chan found the posters to be thoughtful and pointed out their inclusion of the “funny parts” from the season, such as when he yelled “I need a bandage” at practice. In addition, coach Paul Chiu gave short speeches for the graduating seniors as they walked down the court with their family members to wish them farewell.

Captain and senior Rishi Dasari, who plays the setter position, exclaims his enjoyment of setting the ball to libero and senior Sudhit Rao, who was able to play outside hitter on the court after almost eight years during this game. He has had a lot of fun not only throughout the 2021-2022 season but also throughout the four years that he has spent as part of the Boys Volleyball program. Dasari specifically highlights last year’s 14-1 CCS runner up season when the team won the league title after a 3-2 comeback against Los Gatos, and looks forward to CCS this year as well.

“[Today] was a very, very fun game,” Dasari said. “Everyone got involved. I’m going to miss it. It’s kind of sad, but I [also] feel [happy that I am] moving on with life.”

Similarly, Rao attributes the team’s success during the game to the fact that he had a lot of fun while playing. Additionally, he was able to be in a position that he has longed to play, further making his last home game a memorable one.

“It was nice to whip out the swing again,” Rao said. “I was super happy with how it went. Being able to hit is something that I wanted to do all the time and purely because of the position I play, I don’t get to do it that often. I’m always begging Coach to let me hit so this was the day — this was our day.”
