n addition to the universal flavors in 2002, unami, meaning “a pleasant savory taste” in Japanese, is known for a meaty and savory tang that deepens flavor, found in protein-rich delights such as meats and tomatoes. Click the video below to learn how to make caprese salad, a simple yet elegant Italian dish rooted in unami ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • ⅓ cup balsamic glaze
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 12 oz. fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 10-15 basil leaves (up to preference)
  • ⅓ cup olive oil (up to preference)

Directions:

  1. Cut tomatoes into thick slices
  2. Cut mozzarella into thick slices
  3. Prepare toppings for use
  4. Arrange slices with basil leaves on platter
  5. Drizzle olive oil and balsamic glaze on platter (decorative design optional)
  6. Enjoy!
