On Friday, Jan. 7, FUHSD Superintendent Polly Bove announced at an all staff webinar that she’ll be retiring at the end of this school year. Bove has served as superintendent since 2006 and has been working in the FUHSD for 32 years.

According to a statement from the FUHSD Board, Bove has provided “a strong set of guiding beliefs, a tradition of authentic engagement, strong financial position, beautiful and functional campuses and a deep bench of student leaders.”

The Board will begin to look at candidates for the superintendent position and hopes to select a new superintendent by July 1, 2022, with an update email “in the coming days.”

“As we proceed with the selection process, the Board and district leaders will be consulting and communicating regularly with students, families, staff and the broader community,” the Board said in an email. “The process will include several meetings where staff, students and parents will be invited to give feedback on the direction of the district and hopes for its future.”

Bove said that she did not take the decision lightly and gave “great deal of consideration for the best interests of our district as a whole.” But she felt that it was time to pass the torch to a new superintendent.

“While this was not an easy decision to make, and is certainly bittersweet, it is my belief that this is the right time to pass the torch to a new superintendent and district leader who will transition FUHSD into its next phase,” Bove said in a statement.
