From its release in 2009, League of Legends has been received remarkably well across the globe and, by July 2012, even broke the record in North America and Europe for most amount of hours played of any PC game. The multiplayer online game by Riot Games manifested itself into a club at MVHS in 2014, thanks to a few passionate students from the alumni class of 2015.
However, as older members graduate and newer games enter in stores, the club has gotten noticeably less active in the 2017-18 year.
“There are fewer people that play League and fewer people that know of the club,” senior vice president Jeremy Lin said. “The people who created the club had lots of friends who played League, and they told their friends who told their friends about the club, so the club gained popularity through that. Now that they’re all gone, we’re kind of missing a lot of people to show up at meetings.”
With the hopes of attracting more members through hosting the widely popular annual MVHS League of Legends Winter Tournament, Lin has high hopes for the League of Legends club.
“I honestly just want the club to be popular again, because it really is a good club for people who play the game,” Lin said. “And it’s a shame to see [fewer and fewer] people play it.”
