Despite the fact that homecoming was in October, the REX Productions Club at MVHS is planning to release their documentaries later in December or even in January.

REX has made homecoming documentaries in past years, but this set will be released after a skipped year. According to Director of Operations senior Nithin Kumar, because of difficulties in leadership after the graduation of president Eric Xu in 2015, the club didn’t function too well.

“Last year we had a transition from [Xu],” Kumar said. “[He] left last year, and we were a little bit disorganized so we didn’t get a lot of anything done at all last year. We … did almost nothing.”

However, this year was different. Despite the delay, REX has been diligently working on getting the documentary up. Recently, co-president senior Henry Wang has been working on putting it together while the other officers work on helping newer members create their own videos.

“Compared to last year, I feel that the club is focused on getting inexperienced members out during shoots and getting them trained,” sophomore Neel Griddalur said. “I think that this is a good step forward for REX as it is not really focused around the officers and a few members with experience.”

Filming for these documentaries happened over the course of homecoming. Members went to class events for skit decorations and recorded their practice. There were some technical difficulties, but according to Kumar these got fixed with each consecutive performance.

“It gets better by class,” Kumar said. “It’ll be 2018, 2019, 2020, 2017, probably in increasing order of quality.”

Because of finals and winter break coming up, the date of release is still up in the air, but the club officers hope to get it up sometime soon. Even though it is much after homecoming, Wang thinks that the student body will appreciate it.

“I feel like if we released it right when homecoming was over, people would be like, ‘we just went through homecoming, we already know what it’s about,’” Wang said. “Releasing it now or a little bit later, it’s like [looking] back on a really special time of this year. It’s a whole big homecoming change, and as we’re going into finals and … second semester, it’s good to look back.”

Update: Kumar is Director of Operations
