The day has finally come, when Jimmy has left, a real shame since he was definitely hands down the most attractive character in Downton Abbey. Instead we are entertained by the humor of Mr. Molesley, and for a moment it is quite hilarious to watch.

Humor aside, all eyes are on Lady Mary, a widow who does not shy away from crossing the line. Taking time for a road trip with one of her suitors, Tony, is not an acceptable act for an aristocrat such as Lady Mary, in fact it’s forbidden, going a step further choosing to purchase a guide to sex and preventative birth control. It is nice to see women taking charge of their desires, proving that it is not only men who can break the rules. As for Lady Mary, it can be said she has no clue as to what she desires, but regardless, whatever she chooses is bound to be an unforgettable adventure.

Lady Rose follows in the footsteps of her cousin, Lady Mary of being a strong willed woman, but rather uses her confidence to bring new changes to Downton. From a younger generation, Rose focuses her time on bringing modern changes to Downton in the hopes that other aristocrats follow. Rose does bring something new to Downton, technology, trying to convince Robert to bring a wireless radio to Downton, in order to hear a speech by the King.

Unfortunately for Lady Edith, her will to remain a strong and confident woman, has begun to crumble. Edith struggles to get her daughter back, instead becoming a godmother. It is visible that keeping the truth from her parents, has begun to get to Edith, but whether Edith will be reunited with her daughter or reach her breaking point, is still a question yet to be answered.

Anna Bates is in no better boat than Edith, as she is notified that the death of her rapist, Mr. Green, was no accident, rather a murder. Will Anna have to pay a price for telling her husband, Mr. Bates, as he is now a possible suspect, or is it someone at Downton that we least expect?

As for the older women of Downton, Lady Cora has not lost her ability to flirt, in fact the most interesting drama on Downton this season could be the result of her flirtatious relationship with Simon Bricker. Isobel, on the other hand, is a woman who has lost both her husband as well as her son. Having rejected Doctor Clarkson, one wonder if Isobel is ready to bring a man into her life, particularly Richard Grey.

One can enjoy the power and adventure women have begun to experience at Downton, but hopefully this is a permanent change, and not one that will soon be forgotten.
