Christmas decorations and Christmas songs weren’t the only excitements at CityTeam’s San Jose base on Friday, Dec. 20. Though Christmas lights lit up trees and stockings lined the wall, the main attraction was a dull thumping, a quiet crunching, and an irregular scratching from within the building. It was the sound of eggplants being cut, brussel sprouts being peeled, carrots being skinned. It was the sound of volunteers, including two CSF volunteers, who would be cooking for over seventy spiritual counselors and drug addicts.
As a Christian drug recovery organization, City Team views Christmas as one of the most important holidays. When sophomore Tiffany Tsang, organizer of the event for her officer-for-a-day training and junior Amy Liu arrived, CityTeam had completed decorating the building’s dining hall with angels, stockings, two Christmas trees ornamented in red and white and other Christmas adornments. However, their work was behind the festive decorations, in the kitchen. After four days of two-hour finals, Liu and Tsang underwent a three and half hour trial of cutting carrots, chopping eggplants and peeling brussel sprouts, followed by an hour and half of serving Cityteam workers and residents.
