Food: Paris Baguette serves up a true bite of France

Cupertino’s newest bakery is as authentically chic and charming as a Parisian café.

Despite being cozily nestled into a street corner, Paris Baguette beckons visitors with its promises of an excitingly French-inspired afternoon. While its location may not be prime, Paris Baguette’s dazzling interior marks this café as a unique eatery in Cupertino. The infectiously chattery ambiance and the high, mirrored ceilings give the space an open feel, and the energetic blue-and-silver color scheme transports customers to the bustling streets of Paris.

The café employs a unique buffet-style serving process. The walls are lined with a wide selection of breads, pastries, soufflés, croissants and other French delicacies. Each individual may pick up a tray and a pair of tongs, allowing for unrestrained selection.

Amongst Paris Baguette’s baked goods is the Belgian waffle. Although a little dry upon first taste, the waffle proves to be light and feathery towards the center, and the smattering of powdered sugar between its ridges is a welcome surprise. With its subtle sweetness, the Belgian waffle gives its diner just enough flavor to leave him or her wanting more.

One of the café’s dessert picks is a slab of Cappuccino Mousse. The dish is composed of three distinct layers: a crumbly cake-like base, a coffee-flavored middle section and a creamy surface, topped with dollops of white icing. These three rich flavors blend well together, and the sweetness of the chocolate cream balances out the coffee-tinged middle portion. This dish seems a little too sugary in comparison to the café’s other selections, but it remains a popular item, as can be observed from the impressive number of diners selecting it from the counter.

The Mocha Blended proves to be a standout item as well. It is cool, rich and seamlessly bittersweet. The drink itself contains equal proportions of coffee and chocolate and is served with a hint of vanilla.

Featuring an appetizing menu and festive decor, Paris Baguette distinguishes itself as a first-class eatery. By surrounding its customers with the rich tastes of fresh chocolate and the excitement of satisfied customers, this classy café just may have unearthed the allure of France that Cupertino, until now, has yet to experience.
