On Jan. 10, the Matadors (6-9, 3-0) topped the Los Altos Eagles (7-8, 1-2) 60-48, led by captain senior Steffanie Sum’s 21 point, 8 rebound performance. MVHS solidified the victory by shooting 17 of 21 from the free throw line while limiting Los Altos to 22 percent shooting from the field.

In the third quarter, senior Lauren Amorese surged with 15 points, including a three-point play at the end of the third quarter that led to a 42-42 tie. However, the Matadors did not allow a single field goal to Los Altos in the fourth quarter, as Los Altos shot 0-14 and committed four turnovers. With the defense, MVHS outscore the Eagles 18-6 in the fourth quarter en route to the 60-48 victory.
