Proud parent, former assistant boys volleyball coach died of heart condition.
Hodges helped create the boys volleyball program in 2006 and had remained deeply involved for the following five years. For the majority of the spring 2010 sports season, he acted as assistant coach of the varsity boys volleyball team, of which his son, senior Jason Hodges, is a member. His dedication and passion for the sport was apparent through his undoubted attendance at each match and faith in the boys.
“He was always very positive and encouraging to the players,” varsity boys volleyball coach Paul Chiu said. “He went out of his way to organize the boys, find a team for them and support them throughout the course of the season.”
According to Chiu, Hodges’ infectious optimism both on and off the court made for happy memories with family and friends. ·
“From day one, he always took pride in us and supported us in school, sports and any activity we had a passion for. “ Eldest son David said in his eulogy presented at the memorial service held on Apr. 6.
He supported his sons at whichever events they participated in, ranging from the court to the stage at Variations’ and band concerts to watch his sons Ben and Jason.
“I have said ‘Hi’ to [Jason’s] parents a couple times during concerts,” Choir instructor Shari D’Epiro said. “But they must have been amazing parents because they have wonderful sons.”
Friends and family remember Hodges as a happy, supportive friend, who brought smiles to the many people whose lives he touched.
“He showed us how to be men by example.” middle son Ben said, ·“If I had one goal in life it would be to be as good a father to my children as he was to us.
Bob Hodges survived by his wife Tanya, and sons Ben, David and Jason Hodges.
