El Estoque reporter Kevin Tsukii shows you how you can help contribute to the Japan relief effort
1. Make sure your piece of paper is perfectly square (usually six inches by six inches is a good size).
2. Fold it in half to make a big triangle and fold it in half again to make a smaller triangle. And half one more time.
3. Now unfold it and flatten it out.
4. Take the opposite edges of both sides and fold them to the corner closest to you.
5. With a smaller diamond shaped paper, take two sides of the mouth and fold them along the center line.
6. You will need to fold all four sides into the middle to make a shape that looks like a pear.
7. For the next step you will need to make a crease by folding the bottom of the pear and folding it up to the middle. Now unfold it, and unfold all four sides.
8. Now that you’re back to the shape of the smaller diamond, open up the mouth and fold the back until you hit the crease.
9. Fold both the left side and the right side along the crease that you have made.
10. Repeat this step for the other side. Now you should have a shape that looks similar to the pair that you had earlier.
11. Fold down the flaps of the pair so you’ll have a shape that looks like a crab’s claw.
12. Take the two sides that are separated and fold them into the center. Repeat this four times for all four sides.
13. Fold up the two narrower parts of the crane.
14. Now to make the head of the crane pick either side of the crane you have pulled up, open up the fold and bend down the tip.
15. With the head folded down, you may now open up the wings to expand the body.
16. You have now made your paper crane. Don’t forget to drop off the paper crane in the middle of the rally court until the end of this week to make sure that it is sent to Japan.
