PTSA and Kennedy PTA fund screening of documentary

The MVHS PTSA and Kennedy Middle School PTA will be hosting a screening of the educational reform documentary, “Race to Nowhere” at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 11 and 18 in the auditorium.

Mom-turned-education-activist, Viki H. Abeles and her documentary “Race to Nowhere” confront the unrelenting expectations and stress that high school students face. MVHS joins Lynbrook and Harker in screening the documentary. Movie poster picture taken without permission from Reel Link Films.Designed to bring the MVHS and KMS communities together, the screenings will promote open discussion about education. The PTSA has also invited counselors and staff members from both schools to facilitate a 30-minute open-forum discussion after the 90-minute movie.

To make the screening free to the public for a more enticing offer, MVHS, MVHS PTSA, and KMS PTA split the $2,350 fee to screen the documentary for two nights

Since ticket sales opened on Dec. 2, students, parents, teachers, and community residents have claimed all 840 tickets for both nights.

The communal response to the screenings will determine whether the PTSA and PTA will fund two additional screenings in March.
