Check here for updates on a tense first CCS game
Varsity girls volleyball swept the Watsonville Wildcatz 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-21) to advance to the second round of CCS.
The Matadors took control early while the Wildcatz had to adjust to playing against a team from the higher-ranked De Anza League. Through the second and third sets, Watsonville started to provide stiff competition, including their 11-2 start in the third game. However, the Matadors came back to tie the set at 18 before pulling away with a win. The Matadors will play first-seeded Palo Alto High School Vikings at Valley Christian High School at 1 p.m. on Nov. 13. They have lost both meetings against the Vikings, who finished their season 34-1.

Although the third game was mighty close, the Matadors end with a win against the Watsonville Wildcatz. Wastonville came alive with an 11 to 2 run to start the set. Bumping up the score from a Watsonville leas, the game was almost the an end with an 18 to 18 tie. The five aces from sophomore Serena Chew contributed greatly. The matadors then pull away with several kills to a 25 to 21. Winning all three games, the Matadors go home with smiles on their faces.

MV wins the second game, 25-20, and is now up 2-0 in the match. Watsonville’s serves have given the Matadors’ back row some trouble, leading to weaker front row hits. However, the Matadors found their way near the end of the set with strong defense. When the Matadors had to hit a down ball, libero sophomore Serena Chew dug Watsonville’s ensuing hit, allowing senior Samantha Barry to easily hit the ball for a point.
