Varsity Boys Baseball won 14-0 against MacDonald High School on Tuesday, April 7, designating it as one of the best games of the season. MVHS started strong, with junior Shiva Kumaraguru hitting a three-RBI homer — when a batter hits a home run with two other runners on different bases — by the third inning, marking a key moment that gave MVHS a decisive victory.
Kumaraguru says that MVHS, with a current 13-4 record, has had a great season thus far. He adds that the team has been training its offense and defensive skills to maintain an edge over other competitive teams in the league.
“We’re trying to replicate the success we’re having each game,” Kumaraguru said. “By doing this, hopefully, we can win the rest of our league games.”
Junior and catcher Joseph Murai agrees with Kumaraguru, noting that the team aimed to start strong by pitching hard and playing good defense. However, while MVHS maintained a significant lead, he noticed players beginning to tire as the game progressed, leading to a few mistakes in the later innings.
“After the first couple of innings, we got lazy and began jogging around,” Murai said. “It didn’t look too good. We need to keep our energy up through the whole game.”
Murai believes MVHS is currently in a good spot, adding that the team is working hard to win games and qualify for the league playoffs. As the rest of the season approaches, both Murai and Kumaraguru are looking forward to playing other competitive teams in the league.
“I think we’re the best team in the league compared to the competition we have,” Kumaraguru says. “I’m feeling pretty good, but we’re not gonna get too fired up.”
