Varsity Coed Badminton defeated Saratoga High School 24-6 on Tuesday, March 31. Marking the halfway point through its season, junior and doubles player Adhvika Wangoo believes she and her partner have made a lot of progress on working together throughout the season, improving on rotations and continuing to grow stronger as a pair.
“I need to work on my rotations but as a pair, we need to be there for each other more and have better shot selection,” Wangoo said. “I want to get stronger on my shots, so I’m looking forward to rematching these schools again and seeing how much we’ve improved.”
Senior and captain Ryan Wong says that the team has improved throughout the season, citing how organization has been the key to success and that some members have their eyes set on qualifying for CCS playoffs. In badminton, each school can send up to two players/pairs for each event.
“In the beginning it was a little unorganized and chaotic,” Wong said. “As time went on, with more practice, the whole team slowly got better, and we got used to playing games.”
In the meantime, junior and singles player Logan Tamtoro believes that the team needs to improve on consistency with shots.
“I think we’ve been doing better than expected, but our next few games are going to be harder,” Tamtoro said. “I hope we can do better than we did the first time.”
Wong agrees, saying that as a captain, he’s been helping the team improve at the mental aspect of the game.
“We’ve been doing a lot of drills with them, making sure everyone’s doing well before games,” Wong said. “We have been having pep talks and just mentally preparing them.”
