The Dual Rally was in the main gym on Friday, Feb. 16, concluding the Dual Rally Spirit Week and sending MVHS students into the upcoming February break. The theme of the rally was superheroes versus villains, with freshmen and seniors sporting neon colors and the juniors and sophomores decked out in white. The gym was covered in glow-in-the-dark decorations and the bleachers were lined with light up sticks and pom poms for MVHS’s first lights-out rally in over a decade. The rally consisted of class competitions and dances by Andaaz, Bhangra and the cheer team.
Senior Ananya Jilla said the inspiration for this rally came from other schools that had done it before, combined with the theme of superheroes versus villains. The process of making the rally a lights-out themed event involved numerous steps to ensure the concept of making the gym dark, as well as setting up the necessary equipment for the rally.
“There are two things that are special about this rally,” Jilla said. “I think the first one is that it’s a dual rally, so we pair off the classes as a team and also we did our first ever lights out rally. There’s a bit of preparation in terms of getting classes to make their own team chants and also figuring out how to cover up the gym so light doesn’t come in. Other than that, it’s just the usual process of making posters, getting games and costumes together.”
