Tom Brady signs with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after 20 years with the New England Patriots
How MVHS students feel about the star quarterback leaving

In his 20 seasons as the quarterback for the New England Patriots, Tom Brady won six super bowls, earning a total of four Super Bowl MVPs and three league MVP awards. However, after the Patriots lost in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs against the Tennessee Titans this season, Brady’s future with the team was up in the air. This offseason, the Patriots did not renew Brady’s contract and on March 20, the 42-year-old quarterback announced his move to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to ESPN, and sophomore Nikhil Kaviraja, Brady left the Patriots because of conflicts with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
“I was surprised and disappointed at the same time,” Kaviraja said. “Because he’s been there for 20 seasons. I don’t know why he would just go to the Buccaneers, like [that’s] such a random team. They’re pretty bad. I come to figure out that like he left because there are disagreements between him and Belichick.”
According to an article by NBC Sports, “Brady’s perspective is that he could have done more with more help from his coach; Belichick’s perspective is that he should have worked better with the help that he was given.” In response to this, sophomore Edgar Tsai believes that Brady will be able to thrive with Tampa Bay because he will be exposed to a coaching style that’s different from Belichick.
“I think that with the new weapons he has in Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and OJ Howard and Ronald Jones, he’s probably gonna do very well in Tampa Bay,” Tsai said.

Although Tsai is not a Patriots fan, he does think that it is one of the best teams in the league and that it lost on the best players ever with Tom Brady. Sophomore Krithik Srinivasan explains that Brady leaving is a positive for the entire league.
“Tom Brady, obviously left the Patriots who were really good for a long period of time, one of the best teams in the league,” Srinivasan said. “I just think that a player that’s as good as he is leading the team. [Him leaving] really makes the league more competitive and fun, enjoyable for everybody to watch.”

Tsai believes that although the Buccaneers aren’t the best team in the league at the moment, Brady will fix the quarterback situation which has been “terrible.” He says it’s a good team and Brady’s acquisition could take the Buccaneers to the Super Bowl in the near future.
“This is gonna impact Drew Brees and Teddy Bridgewater in North Carolina and New Orleans this year, because they’re going to have an actual threat in Tom Brady and the Buccaneers,” Tsai said.

With Brady gone, Tsai believes that one of the greatest sports dynasties has come to an end and the Patriots just lost its key leader.
“Tom Brady, throughout his career, has been a game manager and a leader for the entire team,” Tsai said. “He’s a team player and he motivates his players to do well. He gets the best out of all of his receivers and players.“
