t’s the start of autumn, and that means sweaters, chilly winds and a fresh cup of your favorite Starbucks latte. But why go to Starbucks every day for an overpriced drink when you can just make yourself a cup at home? Check out the recipes below to learn how to make your favorite coffee drinks like lattes, macchiatos and more.
Latte
Ingredients
- Espresso or strongly brewed coffee
- 2% or nonfat milk
- cocoa powder to garnish
Brew espresso however you like it
Froth the Milk: To make the milk foam, either use a milk frother or fill a jar with a screw-on lid halfway on. Shake until the foam forms (approximately 30 seconds) and then microwave for 45 seconds to 1 minute, and there you go, warmed milk and foam in one shot
Add warm milk into espresso to taste
Add foam and top with cocoa powder if desired
Mocha
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz. brewed espresso
- 2 Tbsp. chocolate syrup
- Sugar
- ¾ cup steamed milk
Brew espresso
Add espresso
Add chocolate syrup*
* If you don’t have chocolate syrup, you can make some by mixing together milk and cocoa
powder until it reaches your desired consistency, then add in sugar to taste
Add steamed milk*
*Steamed milk is milk heated to around 150-160º F, you can achieve this on a stovetop with a thermometer or, if you have the equipment, with the steam wand on an espresso maker
Stir and enjoy
