CRUST: Thin wheat crust

BASE: Olive oil, tomato sauce

TOPPINGS: Mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, garlic, barbecue sauce on the side

I’ve always been a bit hesitant to try new things, especially when it comes to food. I like to relish in simplicity and familiarity. Even though Pieology’s system may seem daunting at first, with its many different sauces, cheeses, and crusts laid out in front of you behind the glass, you don’t feel forced to make a complex pizza.

When I walked up to the counter, I didn’t see a menu at first and started to panic. The employee behind the counter asked me what I wanted to order and I said, “A pizza?” with a hesitant look on my face. He simply chuckled and then kindly pointed out the gigantic menu that was on the wall right next to me. After scanning the menu, I sighed in relief as I saw a familiar “Margherita Pizza”. I made it pretty obvious that it was my first time at Pieology, so the employee was extremely friendly guiding me through all of the options and explaining the ones that I scrunched my eyebrows at.

The pizza itself was, in general, tasty. The cheese was perfectly warm and gooey and the slices were not too thick yet not too thin. The only thing that really irked me was the fact that the tomatoes were huge and kept falling off my pizza, but then again, tomatoes slide off of many things.

At first, I regretted not changing the sauce that I put at the base of my pizza, but I was pleasantly surprised when one of the employees brought me ranch and barbecue sauce containers. Another aspect of Pieology that I didn’t particularly like was the fact that they do not serve individual slices. Personally, I eat in small quantities, which is why I had to bring home the remaining four slices. Offering customers the option to just grab a slice or two would make the experience better, and probably wouldn’t result in customers eating soggy pizza the next morning.

Regardless, Pieology is definitely a place I will visit again. And not necessarily because of the food, but for the warm and friendly ambience that makes it the perfect place to hang out with friends while getting a quick bite to eat.
