During the holiday season, people spend countless hours mulling over the perfect gift for their friends and family. But while we search for that one ideal present — the Michael Kors bag that Mom’s always wanted or the Marvel action figure that has your little brother’s face pressed against the store’s glass window — millions of people need only simple necessities like a warm blanket, a tent, vaccines or clean water to give them hope for a better life. And while the homeless and other people in need are the usual recipients of the “giving season,” this year the Syrian refugee crisis has come to the forefront of the world’s problems. So we asked Chandni Jain, the Global Citizenship Fellow with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in the San Francisco Bay Area, in an e-mail about the best ways to help the refugees.
