Amid the release of a slough of new devices, Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino unveiled the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 on Oct. 16.
Following the iPad release ceremony, Apple placed these devices up for pre-order in the Apple store. The Air 2 is the company’s thinnest iPad to date, and the iPad Mini 3, though similar to the Mini 2 version, is set apart with a distinct Touch ID. Both come in silver, space gray and gold. The models have a base of 16GB selling at roughly 399 dollars.
The release of the new iPad tablets has been met with contrasting reactions from MVHS students.
“My family owns zero Apple products, and I didn’t even know about the release,” senior Julia Miao said. “We have mostly PCs at my home.”
Although Miao remains herself partisan toward the new products, her father usually does not purchase Apple products for the family as he believes they are overrated.
“I might end up buying an Apple product some years down the line,” Miao said. “[My family] has nothing against Apple, but PCs just work better.”
Senior Maisie Lee holds a different view.
“Everyone in my family owns at least one Apple product,” Lee said.
Due to the prevalence of Apple devices in her household, Lee believes that this time around, her family will opt out of purchasing any of the recently released tablets. Though Lee agrees that her family is a strong Apple supporter, she too holds some reservations in constantly acquiring more Apple products.
“I think that maybe Apple’s release of new products is a bit too much,” Lee said. “Sometimes I feel like they’re almost the same each year.”
Both the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 will be shipped to families starting next week.
