Girls soccer played Los Gatos High School on Jan. 29. Though the Matadors had scoring opportunities and strong passes, they did not follow their shots into the goal, and MVHS lost 4-0. The game was highlighted by five strong moments, including freshman Kalpana Gopalkrishnan’s breakaways and a direct free kick from senior Alice Johnson.

1. LGHS starts the game strong with a goal, followed by two more goals from the Cats in the first 15 minutes of the game. The score is 3-0, and though both teams have close shots, the score does not change for the rest of the first half.

2. After a mostly uneventful second half, the Cats take a shot 17 minutes in. Junior goalie Audrey Haines blocks the ball, but LGHS forwards take the rebound and score.

3. Senior Alice Johnson takes a direct free kick. The shot is close, but the LGHS goalie saves it.

4. Freshman Kalpana Gopalkrishnan dodges the Cats goalie and attempts a shot, but it is not followed in. Gopalkrishnan’s runs during the game resulted in multiple breakaways.

5. MVHS takes a free kick at the end of the game, but the ball does not go in. The score remains 4-0.

The next home game is on Feb. 5 against Los Altos High School.
