Homecoming changes ensure fairness and fun

Homecoming week has faced deviations from tradition before, but this year will bring the most dramatic changes yet: Homecoming week is being held almost a month in advance, and while the Powderpuff tournament’s exact dates are yet to be revealed , it will most likely take place during the second semester.

Holding the tournament so long after the Homecoming spirit week and football game could leave the MVHS community with significantly less spirit and excitement the event usually brings.

However, considering how much earlier Homecoming will be taking place, the rescheduling of Powderpuff is for the best.

If it were held during spirit week, classes would have only three weeks to prepare.
With such little time to practice, the quality of the Powderpuff games and cheer routines would suffer.
In addition, the lack of time to prepare would put underclassmen at a great disadvantage, since the upperclassmen have more experience with the event. This is likely to unfairly affect the classes’ scores.

Holding Powderpuff later in the year will not only give students more time to organize and rehearse their routines, but it will also liven up an otherwise uneventful time period.[/toggle_code]
