Vending machine near Gym broken, robbed

Vending machine near Gym broken, robbed

Several items stolen from machine

At an unknown time on the night of April 28, merchandise from the vending machine near the gym was stolen.
The glass was broken to reach the products inside the machine. Because it was recently stocked when stolen, administration is aware of the amount that was taken without payment. The machine will most likely be fixed by May 6. Photo by Kevin Tsukii.“Somebody took something and broke the glass window with it—shattered it—and took what they wanted. Mostly potato chips, some of the energy drinks and bars,” Facilities Manager Chris Kenney said. “There were still quite a few things inside it.”

According to Kenney, the vending machine, which was installed on March 13, was mostly missing energy bars, drinks, and an entire row of potato chips. He could tell exactly what had been stolen due to it being re-stocked the night before. The cost estimates of the theft were reported to the local sheriff. The school, which receives 5%-8% of the profits from the machines, does lose out from these thefts.

In the past, the machines have been broken into but the most recent incident occurred several years ago. The Pepsi machines that were stationed at MVHS in previous years were robbed more often when they started accepting dollar bills instead of just quarters. Robbers would go as far as to cut holes into the sides of the machines to take the bills. The Pepsi company had to install metal grills around the machines to prevent such thefts. Although there are no current plans for extra protection around the machines, if there is to be any consideration of placing cages around them, it would be done by the provider, Natural Cravings Healthy Vendor.
