As the NCAA tournament draws to a close, community gives its Final Four predictions
On March 15, one of the most popular sporting events in America today began, attracting the attention of millions of fans across the nation. The annual NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament lived up to his hype with the usual thrilling competition and shocking upsets. Students at MVHS likewise took notice as the tournament lived up to its nickname, “March Madness.” On Saturday April 2, the semifinals will be played between the four schools remaining in the competition.
This year, the tournament has been especially exciting. Small colleges arriving as underdogs have upset some of college basketball’s greatest basketball programs. Perhaps the most shocking candidate for the national championship, 11th-ranked Virgina Commonwealth University has plowed through high seed like Georgetown, Purdue, and Kansas on its way to the Final Four. Its opponent, eighth-ranked Butler University, makes its second consecutive trip to the Final Four after defeating the likes of Florida, Wisconsin, and Pittsburgh. On the other side of the bracket, powerhouses of University of Connecticut takes on University of Kentucky.
In the first-ever NCAA tournament without a first or second seed in the Final Four, many eyes will be glued to the television screen Saturday as another round of March Madness takes place.
