Staff and Academics Commission holds its annual Spelling Bee
From words such as C-A-T to P-L-E-U-R-O-D-Y-N-I-A, 35 students will battle it out to be the top speller on Dec. 3 in the Academic Court during Staff and Academic Commission’s third annual Spelling Bee. The first and second place winners will receive $100 and $50 gift cards to any store of their choice. All participants will receive an In-N-Out burger for lunch.
Staff and Academic Commission is hoping to use this event to show that even academic events can be exciting.
“We are trying to incorporate events in school that have to do with academics. We think introducing [the Spelling Bee] will bring an environment that includes academic things but not in a stressful way,” commissioner junior Meg Murthy said.
The students themselves plan on participating for more than just the prize money.
“In all honesty, I am going for the food and just to try. I don’t plan on winning,” junior Michael Whittaker said.
