Varsity girl’s basketball is featured on the local Cal Hi Sports channel

Not only did the Lady Mats win a game 53-47 against the Mountain View Spartans, but they also won a chance to appear on the big screen. Cal Hi Sports Bay Area, the local coverage of high school sports, witnessed their victory and invited the team to be on the featured team of the week on television. At the Cal Hi recording studio in Burlingame, the Lady Mats talked about their team chemistry and recent win over Mountain View Spartans, with whom the Lady Mats shared the league championship with last year.

Seniors Victoria Lee and Amy Lin explain that their team bonding is crucial to their successful performance on the court. The girls bond with each other and their coach, Sara Borelli through team dinners, team sleepovers and their annual camping trip in forty degree weather.

"It brings us so much closer as a team, and its definitely working for us because we are having a good season so far," Lee said. "We may have high scorers each game but those baskets come from amazing passes, inbounders, and rebounders."

The girls also just moved up into Division 1 of the De Anza league. With a current league record of 2-0, the Lady Mats are determined to have an undefeated season.

"Being on TV doesn’t change anything because no matter what we always work our hardest in games. We are driven to go 14-0 in league this year," Lee said.

The Cal Hi Sports episode featuring the girl’s varsity basketball team will air Sunday Jan. 10 at 6 and 11 p.m on Comcast channel 13 and Direct TV channel 20.
