MVHS ranked 70 in the latest national study of public high schools by U.S. News & World Reports
For the third year in a row, MVHS is placed in the top 100 US public high schools according to U.S. News & World Reports.
MVHS ranks 70 nationally, down from 59 in 2008 and 2009. Ten other high schools in the Bay Area made it onto the list, including Palo Alto High School, Saratoga High School and Lynbrook High School.
Gunn High School and Lowell High School jumped past MVHS this year, ranking 67 and 28 respectively. Pacific Collegiate Charter School in Santa Cruz topped the list of Bay Area schools with a ranking of 7.
For more than twenty years, U.S. News & World Reports have published lists of America’s best colleges. High school rankings are a relatively new development. The reports have previously been called into question, as the only variables considered are state test performance, reading and math proficiency of disadvantaged students, and AP scores.
In a similar study by Newsweek, MVHS ranked 140, up from 147 in 2008.
