Construction efforts to modernize the F-building began in early January and are set to be completed by August 2025.
The project, funded by the Measure G Bond Program, involves significant upgrades to facilities, including “increased square footage for a percussion studio, an instrumental locker room, updated fire systems and improved heating and cooling systems,” according to an email from Principal Ben Clausnitzer.
Construction work is limited to 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. to minimize school disruptions. However, parking lot access has been affected, with debris removal occasionally restricting drivers to one unobstructed lane or diverting traffic around the solar panels. Ed Batcheller, who works at SC Builders and is the site manager for the MVHS renovations, says the top priority is maintaining safety throughout the eight-month process.
“Watching out for the safety of lives is a big issue in construction,” Batcheller said. “With so many people, no one wants to get hurt. Everyone wants to go home to their families.”
Currently, he says the team is working on extensive structural upgrades to the building. This involves removing the old light fixtures, constructing a walkway and setting the underground storm drains and water lines. Batcheller says the team plans to replant vegetation once construction is completed to maintain an eco-friendly campus.
“Right now, we’re doing the rough grading for the building pad and starting utility work,” Batcheller said. “We’ve already removed all the old concrete and grass. The next steps involve pouring concrete footings and building the foundation, which is critical for locking everything into place. After that, we’ll move on to rebar and other structural work.”
