While the report published by The Sun is very much a take-it-as-you-will rumor, the publication says that the next movie after The Final Reckoning will potentially explore Hunt’s younger years in greater depth, and Cruise is currently looking for the right actor to play that youthful version of his action hero character.Under the guidance of artistic director Dan Knechtges, TUTS began working on a new “Frozen” treatment two years ago. They were one of five theaters selected to produce a new version out of approximately 100 pitches from around the country.
“TUTS has always been on the map, but in the past several years we’ve been really conscientious about developing that relationship with them (Disney),” says Knechtges, who is directing and choreographing this production. “I think it’s a no brainer, especially for us, at Christmas.”With the movie set to bring together some of the most iconic names together for a bloody showdown, Scott Jeffrey reveals Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble will introduce another classic children’s character. The upcoming movie, tentatively slated for a late 2025 release, will be the culmination of The Twisted Childhood Universe that began with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. In the same vein as Freddy vs. Jason and The Avengers, the Poohniverse plot will bring together the horror versions of Pooh, Peter Pan, Bambi, Pinocchio and many others, who team up to hunt down their survivors.
During a recent interview with JoBlo for the upcoming release of Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, Scott Jeffrey shared some insight of what’s to come from Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble. In laying out his and director/producing partner Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s vision for the crossover, the producer began by revealing the movie is working on “a larger scale budget” than the individual titles, while also confirming each movie has “Easter eggs hinting toward the crossover” Connery’s co-star for The Avengers speaks out in opposition to the film. The Avengers is a 1998 superhero spy comedy about two British agents who team up together to try to stop the evil Sir August de Wynter from changing the world forever with a weather-altering machine. Connery played the villainous role in this film, and The Avengers’ leading cast also included Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman, Jim Broadbent, Fiona Shaw, Patrick Macnee, Carmen Ejogo, and Eddie Izzard. The movie is a remake of the 1961 British TV series of the same name.
While there is still no confirmation of what will happen with the Mission: Impossible franchise beyond the upcoming Spring 2025 release of The Final Reckoning, if the report proves to be true about the future of Ethan Hunt’s big screen adventures, it looks like Cruise will be taking the franchise in a new direction to try and revitalize the saga.As he continued explaining how the monsters would all collide, Jeffrey revealed Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble will introduce Mary Poppins to the TCU, teasing she will be “a nightmare” in the film. He also teased that the movie will have a massive body count in which those killed may not get the resurrection treatment, warning that audiences will be able to “count on a hand who’s going to survive”.
The Mission: Impossible franchise appeared to be reaching new heights with Fallout in 2018, with the film landing a staggering 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, and blowing a hole in the box office to the tune of $791 million. Dead Reckoning was expected to be another barnstormer for Cruise, but whether it was the numerous delays, or just one of those things, despite a 96% critics’ score, the film only secured a $570 million worldwide gross. Thanks to the near $300 million budget, this was nothing short of disastrous for Paramount.
While a release still seems to be a ways away for Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, Jeffrey and Frake-Waterfield clearly remain passionate about their unique horror franchise’s future. After the first Winnie-the-Pooh was met with scathing reviews, the latter promised future films would be drastically better. Though the sequel was still not quite a critical hit, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 did see far better reviews, with its 47% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes being about 16 times better than the first movie’s.
Now, The Final Reckoning is set for release in May 2025, and could well be a make-or-break release for the future of Ethan Hunt’s on-screen future. While the movie is no longer being pitched as the last outing for Cruise’s spy in marketing, Paramount may want to keep the next stages of the franchise under wraps until they see how well this latest outing performsThe other potential takeaway from Jeffrey’s tease is that Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble will set up new characters to get solo movies going forward. The introduction of Mary Poppins to the TCU in the crossover seems primed to have her carry on in her own movie, be it a prequel exploring her time before Monsters Assemble or sequel to it.
