MVHS hosted its annual Back to School Night on Sept. 5, 2024. Parents were welcomed with snacks and refreshments in the Student Union before they traveled to their students’ respective periods. Principal Ben Clausnitzer believes Back to School Night is important to ensure parents have a chance to learn about ways to be involved in the school community, in programs such as the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) or Boosters.
“I find Back to School Night to be about connecting with other people in our school community,” Clausnitzer said. “In particular, it’s about parents coming to campus and being able to connect with their student’s teachers. Parents are interested in, certainly, what’s happening in class, but more importantly, they are interested in knowing if their child is in good hands.”
Before Back to School Night presentations began, parents had an opportunity to learn about the different ways they can support the school from stands set up in front of the Student Union by the PTSA, FUHS Foundation and El Valedor Senior Ads. PTSA President Xi Cheng, who is the parent of a MVHS senior, shares her support for events like Back to School Night as it plays a significant role in the promotion of the association. For her, working with the PTSA is a way for parents to make a change in the MVHS community, and Back to School Night provides her the chance to strengthen the PTSA at MVHS.
“I think Back to School Night is a very great opportunity,” Cheng said. “We actually get to meet people, to see each other, chat and talk. I personally think the event is very important, it makes me feel like I have a place to go.”
