With the wind blowing through her hair, senior Ting Chang skateboards down a hill. Her appreciation of nature and the thrill of skating fast inspires her to continue skateboarding recreationally. Although Chang was initially scared of learning to skateboard, she decided to start when she saw her friend skateboarding in third grade.

“In first grade, I fell [and] broke my arm,” Chang said. “So I was really afraid of falling because of that. But then in third grade, I started skateboarding and [that allowed me to] push myself.”
