The branches of MVHS Speech and Debate

Explaining the different events that Speech and Debate offers

The Speech and Debate Club offers a variety of events for its members. The three main branches are original oratory, spontaneous, interpretation and exempt, which also falls under spontaneous. The club is divided into junior varsity and varsity. Each person can choose what tournaments they want to attend out of the 20 offered. Parents of the participants act as judges and evaluate the students that they get assigned to.

The club meets every Tuesday evening with the two presidents, seniors Eesha Moona and Karl Goeltner, starting off with announcements. Then, everyone goes to their assigned room, where the members practice their speech in front of a captain for preparation of upcoming tournaments. Below is an infographic explaining the differences between each branch.
