Dessert Detectives: Alexander’s Pâtisserie

Reviewing popular menu items based on quality and taste

Emily Xia

Twice a month, El Estoque takes on a new case at a bakery or café, trying to decipher the quality and cost of the most popular items. Starting the alphabetical trend, we went to our first cafe, Alexander’s Pâtisserie on Stevens Creek Blvd.

Petites Gâteaux

Matcha Roulade – $7.00

Rating – 10/10

The cake was creamy, and the tartness of the strawberry jam in the center provided a nice balance to the sweeter cream. The matcha flavor was present but not too overpowering, and the cake was both spongy and fluffy, a decadent texture in the mouth.

Tart Trio – $9.00

Rating – 9/10

In general, these mini-tarts were delicious. They are the perfect small sampling for anyone who would like to try an assortment of desserts and not feel guilty about eating so many afterwards.

Macarons

Box of Six – $15

Rating – 9.5/10

Each macaron was fresh; the cookie portion was soft and crumbly, while the filling was decadent and authentic. Although the price was steep, the taste and aesthetic of the macarons made them worth it.

Chocolates

Box of Six – $15

Rating – 8.5/10

The chocolates were well-made and delicious. Each flavor had its own memorable qualities, and there was a multitude of flavors that made it difficult to decide which to taste first. However, the price was too high for just six small chocolates.

OVERALL:

Price: $$$/$$$

Overall rating: 9.5/10

Alexander’s Pâtisserie is a cozy and sweet experience, and it offers unique desserts and flavors that separate it from other bakeries. The store was clean and organized, and the staff were friendly and ready to converse. The packaging for each item was professional, while the desserts themselves met the aesthetic of the cafe’s ambiance. Although Main Street is a popular plaza for MVHS students to hang out at, many completely overlook this small establishment located behind Alexander’s Steakhouse. The price was a bit on the higher end, but in general, the delicious desserts make stopping by worth it, especially if you’re looking for something to satisfy your sweet cravings.
