Marijuana, also known as cannabis or weed, has had a long history of human use, whether it be for medical or recreational purposes. In ancient cultures, marijuana started off as a medicine in Asia. Cultivation of marijuana flourished in America when early colonists grew it for textiles and rope. Throughout the 20th century, various factors led to the illegalization of marijuana in the United States, however, its legal status is currently changing in many places.
