The MVHS girls volleyball team streamed into the gym on Aug. 30 buoyed by the junior varsity team’s comeback victory just moments before. After their win against Wilcox on Aug. 28, the team was unsure what to expect from Branham HS.
“We knew they were definitely tougher than Wilcox so we knew we couldn’t take it as easy,” senior Kelly Chen said.

The team displayed great strength and enduring stamina, but lost the first two sets, a fault that junior Sarah Huang and sophomore Anusha Pothineni saw as the result of a lack of communication.
“I think that communication is key, and we probably miscommunicated a lot so that’s why we lost,” Huang said.
But the girls kept fighting, taking the match to five sets and finally losing by two points in the fifth match, with a final score of 13-15.
