Although the Neuroscience Club fell into a bit of a lull in these last few weeks with AP testing and finals, the club highlighted the end of the semester with a sheep brain dissection that took place at lunch on April 19. The club officers started with a presentation led by president Nathan Wong on the sheep brain and dissection protocol before the lab began. Wong helped spearhead the preparation and planning for the dissection.
“I had some experience from Bay Area Youth Society for neuroscience on how to [dissect brains,]” Wong said.
With Wong’s experience, the club partnered with the club Future Practicing Physicians Network (FPPN) to hold the dissection. After acquiring materials from Mrs. Chow, they were ready to begin. Although the lab began with some initial squeamishness from members, they eventually got used to holding the scalpel.
