A murder and five weapon-related charges.
That was what former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez was charged with in June of 2013. But as a part of the football franchise, the tight end was released from custody less than two hours after being arrested.
Four years later, after a series of indicts and accusations for the murders of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado as well as three cases of armed assault, Hernandez committed suicide the morning of April 19, 2017.
But this wasn’t the expected case for the legend-bound football player. Even as the youngest player in the NFL when he started in 2010, Hernandez was a considered factor in the Patriots’ prowess. He was unable to continue this legacy when he severed the chain with professional football.
