For all of my years as a MVHS student, I’ve been wrong about Leadership. Wrong in the sense of a gross, general oversimplification. I just didn’t know what they did, nor who they were.
As a freshman, I saw leadership as the group responsible for rallies, these new things where kids got together and cheered for a reason I have yet to discover. I also saw leadership as the group responsible for dances, and the majority of dances I’ve been to, I’ve been to alone. Maybe my ignorance was triggered by my loneliness.
But really, that’s all I saw leadership as. I saw it as the group of kids behind rallies and dances. Nothing more.
Truthfully, there are a plethora of fun activities that leadership pours their heart, soul and precious time into putting on for the entire student body. And for students like me, who lack school spirit for the most part, it’s easy for us to turn a blind eye to all the great things leadership does. Great things that even kids like me, who don’t typically dress up for rallies, cherish.
Leadership puts on Powderpuff. They’re responsible for Bull Pens at games. They help with senior nights. They lead dress up days. They reach out to our community and help through community service. They organize club promo days, and then put on club food days to let us gorge.
So many fun memories that I’ve made are because of leadership. Understanding this came late. I just needed to open my eyes and see everything.
