The Blacklight Rodeo dance has been advertised to have three things: black lights, a rodeo theme and a mechanical bull. But is that really all there is to this Friday’s dance? To find out more about exactly what the dance is and how it came to be, El Estoque asked ASB Social Manager senior Bhushan Balagar for four additional things for you to know about this Friday’s event.
1
According to Balagar, when Leadership and ASB brainstormed winter dance themes, a Rodeo-themed dance and a Black Light-themed dance were two ideas that came up. When leadership had to decide which theme had to take center stage for the dance, they decided to combine the two ideas.
2
In the spirit of using black lighting and an Old West rodeo, participants are encouraged to wear either western wear or black light reflective clothing, like white. There will be Western style decorations as well as black lights going off throughout the entire dance.
3 According to Balagar, leadership and ASB members purposefully posted promotional flyers next to the main clocks in classrooms. They hoped that when people looked up at their classroom’s clocks, they would notice the promo poster next to it.
4 Like the majority of the Winter dances, according to Balagar, the Blacklight Rodeo is meant to be an experimental dance to see how many students will participate. The amount of attendance and popularity from the Black Light Rodeo dance will help determine what kind of theme and dress code next year’s winter dance will have.
There was always an idea in leadership and ASB to have a Blacklight themed dance and a rodeo-themed dance.
Blacklight Rodeo will replace previous years’ semi-formal dances.
The promo posters next to the clocks in the classrooms were intentional.
The Blacklight Rodeo dance isn’t currently planned to be annual.
