On a rainy Thursday afternoon, with a broken scoreboard, the MVHS boys soccer team was gearing up to compete for a CCS birth. The Matadors needed a win against Santa Clara HS to remain in contention for a CCS berth. MVHS started the game off well, opening with a 1-0 lead. Senior Hidetoshi Yoshimura scored in the first 10 minutes. SCHS responded with two goals, one in the first half and another in the second. With MVHS staring elimination in the face, they rallied and tied the game 2-2, when junior Songjun Na scored late in the second-half. The Matadors tried desperately to score another goal to keep their CCS hopes alive, but they could not score in the waning minutes of the second half. They were eliminated from CCS contention, and the game resulted in a tie with an overall score of 2-2.
The next homegame will be on Saturday, Feb 11th against Lynbrook.
